Measuring risk for oral cancer
Presented by Prof Michael McCullough

This talk will outline presenting features and diagnosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma and potentially malignant oral mucosal changes. The changing aetiology of oral cancer, clinical tools that may aid in the early recognition of these conditions, and recent evidence an aetiological role for both common oral hygiene practices and sexually transmitted diseases will be discussed.

The future for periodontal regenerations
Presented by Prof Saso Ivanovski

A critical requirement for periodontal regeneration is the ability to promote the formation of functional periodontal attachment between regenerated alveolar bone and newly formed cementum on the root surface. This lecture will address the current status of periodontal regeneration clinical procedures, as well advances in tissue engineered approaches capable of recapitulating the complex wound healing events that will lead to predictable periodontal regeneration.

• Recognize the limitations of currently available periodontal regeneration techniques

Prof Michael McCullough
Michael McCullough is the Professor in Oral Medicine at the Melbourne Dental School, the University of Melbourne. He is the convener of both the post-graduate and undergraduate courses in Oral Medicine, has published over 120 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, and was on the Expert Panel for both editions of the Therapeutic Guidelines book titled ‘Oral and Dental”. Michael is an Oral Medicine Clinical Consultant to the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne’s Dental Clinic. more >

Prof Saso Ivanovski
A Professor of Periodontology at the Griffith University School of Dentistry and Oral Health, Professor Ivanovski currently also works in part time specialist practice in periodontics and surgical implant dentistry. He is a formal federal president of the Australian Society of Periodontology and the Australasian Osseointegration Society, and is a fellow of the International Team of Implantology. He has also published over 100 full length papers in the peer-reviewed international literature.
