Removal of third molars is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures and the necessity for their removal has been discussed. This talk will discuss the indications for and against removal of third molars, the different techniques employed, including the possible role for lingual nerve protection and also the role for coronectomy or deliberate root retention. Some of the possible complications of third molar removal will also be discussed including their prevention and management.
