An update on the use of calcium hydroxide in endodontics and access cavity design.

Calcium hydroxide is an integral part of root canal disinfection that has stood the test of time, particularly with an increasing interest in the decreasing size of endodontic access cavities. Advancements in calcium hydroxide compositions can enhance its disinfecting properties and when incorporated into a cement, may have properties that are suited to being used in obturation of the root canal.
