Temporomandibular disorders is a collective term for a group of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions which includes several clinical signs and symptoms involving the muscles of mastication, the temporomandibular joints, and associated structures. It is an enigmatic field of dentistry with a number of theories and philosophies on its aetiology, diagnosis and management. This lecture will explore current controversies in temporomandibular disorders and provide direction for evidence based clinical practice.
