Description

4:50pm – 5:10pm – Non-invasive screening for molecular dysplasia in oral potentially malignant disorders.
Presented by Dr Tami Yap

5:15pm – 5:35pm – Th17 cytokines in saliva and serum in Chronic Periodontitis

Presented by Dr Nidhi Medara
Chronic Periodontitis is common, complex disease modified by the immune system. Understanding the host response is a key factor in understanding disease etiology. There is a lack of longitudinal data in humans on the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. The results from a 1 year longitudinal study on the effect of periodontal treatment on 15 cytokines in serum and saliva are presented here.

Learning Outcomes:

Review the role of cytokines in periodontal disease
Evaluate how periodontal treatment modifies systemic and local cytokine profiles
Appreciate the complexity of the immune system in the pathogenesis of periodontitis
